Church Membership

All of those who commit to membership at Grace Church of Doylestown assent publicly to six affirmations. It is important to understand clearly what we affirm together before Christ and His Church (the content in bold is what is affirmed, the sub-points are for clarification).

1. Do you believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the Word of God, and its doctrine of salvation to be the perfect and only true doctrine of salvation?
a. I affirm the Bible as the Word of God.
b. I affirm the Bible’s message of salvation in Christ alone.
c. I affirm the sufficiency of the Scriptures for all of life.

2. Do you acknowledge yourself to be a sinner in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope, save in His sovereign mercy?
a. I am a sinner
b. I deserve judgment
c. I am without hope
d. I can only be rescued by God’s mercy.

3. Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the gospel?
a. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
b. I believe that He alone is the Savior of sinners.
c. I receive Him as the One who died in my place and rose again.
d. I rest in His sufficiency to save and to keep me.

4. Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as a genuine follower of Christ?
a. I am unable to follow Christ in my own strength.
b. I rely upon the Holy Spirit for strength.
c. I desire to live faithfully for Jesus Christ.

5. Do you promise to support the church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?
a. I commit myself to love the family of God.
b. I will serve God with what He has given me.
c. I will participate in the mission of the church.

6. Do you submit yourself to the government and discipline of the church, and promise to uphold its purity and peace?
a. I will respect spiritual leadership.
b. I will pursue healthy doctrine and living.
c. I will pursue gospel unity.
