Our History

United By Faith

April 2024
In April 2024, Grace Church of Doylestown was founded by a dedicated group of like-minded believers, united by a vision to establish a church grounded in the life changing transformation and purity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Their collective aspiration was to create a community where every endeavor and interaction centers on the message of Christ as revealed in the Scriptures.

After meeting in a pavilion, a township building, the Central Park amphitheater and the County Theatre, God providentially opened doors with New Britain Baptist Church, who had been praying for a young, growing church to gift their property to.
On August 11, 2024, New Britain Baptist Church voted unanimously to gift their entire property to Grace Church of Doylestown.

The history of the New Britain Baptist Church spans many generations beginning with Welsh baptists who arrived from Wales, in 1700 and settled in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. New Britain’s “mother church” was the Montgomery Baptist Church, which was founded in 1719. As the years passed, and as the area became more settled, the congregation became increasingly scattered. The New Britain people found it difficult to make the arduous and lengthy journey to Montgomery, so they began to hold services in their homes when the roads were impassable.

In 1744 the people of New Britain resolved to build a new church meeting house (the Society Meeting House) for themselves on the property of present day Grace Church and in 1754 the New Britain Baptist Church was officially chartered. Shortly thereafter, in 1754, they became the 9th Baptist Church in the Philadelphia Baptist Association.

The present colonial style sanctuary was built in 1815. Many improvements and enlargements have been made over the years, including the addition of the chapel in 1884, and a classroom addition in 1965. In 1975, a major renovation was completed on the exteriors of the sanctuary and the chapel to remove stucco, and to re-point the original stonework. In 1995, the inside of the chapel was restored to its original style.

The adjoining cemetery is the resting place for soldiers of the Colonial Wars, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and World Wars I and II. Legend has it that there are Indian graves scattered throughout the cemetery. The oldest readable marker in the cemetery is dated August 14, 1748.

A Gift of Grace

By God's Grace

Present Day
Today, Grace Church continues what began in 1744; the faithful proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to glorify God by faithfully proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, for the salvation of mankind and the discipleship of the church.

Grace is central because it is by God's grace that we're even here. He has seen fit to assemble this body of believers to exalt His son, Jesus Christ — the One whose death and resurrection gives us peace with God and the hope of heaven. You'll find that His grace is the common thread that runs through every ministry and expression of worship here.

Church, however, is paramount because of its absolute uniqueness. The “Church" was mandated by God, as revealed in His Word. It is the only institution that he has promised to build. As such, our course has been charted by God; our destiny has been planned by God; our members have been chosen by God; our purposes have been defined by God.

We invite you to come and worship with us as we grow together in Christ!
